Hi,
I have just been onto the Monarch website and, although they have stated that their flights start from 11th April 2011 at a price of £219 for a return ticket, the earliest available flights seem to start from 29th April at a price of £229.50 return per person. These flights are only available on a Saturday.
About the best thing about this is that it is a direct flight but, when you consider that you could get two tickets for under £200 with Ryanair when they were flying there, it does seem rather expensive when you can get a package holiday to some destinations for the same price. Nevertheless, it's good to know that these flights are now available for those who want a hassle-free journey to Calabria and at least it opens up opportunities for travellers from the south-east but it may be more expedient to use the alternative routes with Ryanair/ Easyjet, etc., to other airports in Italy and then take a connecting flight or hire a car for the onward journey.
On the positive side, most of Monarch's flights are under £300 throughout the season and the most expensive are £311.50. However, I could only go as far as September on the website, so I'm not sure whether they will extend this search later on.
All in all, I suppose it can only be a good thing to have these direct flights to this area of Calabria, since many people from England now have holiday homes there and the price of accommodation in the area can be quite reasonable, especially for long-stays.
Here's a link to the Monarch website, which gives more information about these flights and leads to the booking section:

If anyone books a flight with Monarch to Lamezia, perhaps they would be kind enough to post their experience on this thread about the whole process - from booking their flight to the service and the flight itself, etc.
Thanks.
Ciao,
Frances.
