Hello, Mart.

Thanks for the pics - as we sit in rain and wind in San Nicola, we remember with some degree of wistfulness the kind of weather we had a few weeks ago!

At a much more tame level, we discovered a most pleasant walking area in Orsomarso. There is a beautiful state forest there with lots of gentle walking on marked paths though the Argentino river valley.

From here, take the main road into Orsomarso off the SS18. Just before entering the village, the road branches right. Take the right fork through the lower level of the village, and continue straight along what becomes a very narrow and unpromising road. Eventually you arrive at a car park beside a sort of forestry nursery area.

Plenty of walking, along beside the river, an impressive waterfall, and lovely forest scenery. Several picnic areas.

I'm sure most forum members know all this already - but just in case, there's the info for what it's worth. When I discover how to do it, I'll put up a few shots of the place for the delectation of all!

Best regards to all.

Dermot

Hi Dermot and Martin.

I, too, have taken that walk in Orsomarso. It is easy walking, following the river, with plenty of scenery to enjoy. We did the walk with an inhabitant of Orsomarso and during our hike we saw a red deer. He had lived there all his life and said that he had heard that there were deer in the park but had never seen one before. There is also a good local restaurant near the car park. A lovely old lady runs the place , she must be in her late sixties early seventies. We took advantage of the hospitality and had a meal and a glass of wine before heading back to Scalea. A lovely way to end the day.

Thanks for the photos Martin. How long did it take to drive there?

Ciao

John

Hi John

It took about 2 - 3 hours from San Nicola to drive to Terranova di Pollino.

Maybe just a little to far for a day trip but certainly worth an overnighter.

Link for hotel and a few more pictures attached.

Regards

Martin
