Demonstration against the pollution in Calabria

This Saturday 24/10/09 a demonstration is being organised at Amantea by the Comitato Natale De Grazia against the recent announcements of pollution by the sunken ships and other buried toxic waste in Calabria.

It is in the interests of all of us residents and property owners in the area to see these toxic wastes cleaned up.

A bit of cheer-up news. On the news last night it said that apparently there is no pollution off Cetraro. There is a boat that went down but after dives and tests it's been given the all clear. Haven't checked any paper sites yet. ? anyone has. So...with luck, it's safe to stick a toe in again.

Mmmm....have just had a quick look at the Gazzetta del Sud site and it seems that it's only half good news. The boat that is off Cetraro is one that went down in 1917 during WW1 so couldn't have been carrying cosa nostra stuff! Unfortunately they're still carrying on looking for other stuff that may be down there.
