Smile Query re. buses from Naples/Rome

Hi

I'm hoping to buy a place shortly in Scalea as I've loved Calabria for years and am just looking into the logistics of it all as I live in the west coast of Ireland. Anyhow in Winter it looks like the easiest way for me to get there is to fly to Rome and hten make my own way down. Due to that I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the bus service in Italy (I know the train well having lived in Italy for three years but amn't a big fan of trains in general and would prefer the bus!).

Anyhow I fould ibus.it alright but it seems that there are no bookable bus services on it, to Scalea at least! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Default Thanks!

Thanks a million for that link. I hadn't seen it! Odd I know wanting to take the bus but sometimes it's nice to have another option other than the train open to you!

Thumbs up

Hello Aileen 1,
Good to hear of someone from Ireland,I'm from Tyrone
and we bought an apartment in Scalea last year and
just love it.
We usually travel Dublin-Naples and take the train which we
love as we have no trains in Tyrone.
We take the 7.20am Flight and try and catch the 12.50pm
train as there are no changes.
Its quite long 3hrs 20mins but there are faster ones later
in the day but as I say we don't mind.

Good luck on buying your place.
Lets know how you go on.

Thumbs up

Hi Aileen,
We are from Dublin and bought a renovation property in Santa Domenica (8km from Scalea) 2 years ago. We absolutely love it so I doubt you will have any regrets. Dublin-Naples is probably our best option but that ends in October so in winter months we are confined to Dublin-Rome. Tried Dublin-Stanstead-Lamezia this year. Not a bad option but 2 check-ins, security checks etc is a bit of a pain. If not driving we use the train. Never really occured to us to look at bus options. Suppose it would be longer would be interested to know. Lets know how you get on. Best of luck with your purchase !
Niamh
