Question Weather

Hi all, could someone tell me what the weather is like in Scalea. The weather forcast I am looking up is saying it is between 26 & 28 degrees and getting cooler over the next 15 days.
Please tell me it is hot, in the 30s and getting warmer.

Lesley can you sort the weather out please. I am coming over this weekend.

Thank you,
Michael

Default Weather

Hi Michael

Stazione Meteo Darsena Snoopy - Home
This site will give you an record of the weather in Praia a Mare. It updates every 5 minutes. If you click on the "Maggiori dettagli", at the bottom of the page, you will have more information than you will possible need. Temp, Wind force and direction, humidity, barometric pressure, days since last rainfall. date and time of last rainfall. average temp and rainfall today, yesterday, last week, last month. A comprehensive guide and the option to click on one of three webcams. They are not continuous feed but are very good.

Ciao

John

Default Good webcam

Hi,
Thanks for the link to this website - it has an excellent webcam and very useful information re: the weather readily 'on tap'. It was nice to view the area as I am missing the Diamante webcam - it's not functioning now - does anyone know if it will be available again anytime soon? If not, does anyone know of other good webcams along this coastline?
Thanks again.
Ciao,
Frances.

Well I for one will be quite happy if it cools down a bit.
About 11pm last night it was 28 degrees outside and 34 degrees inside!
It has been 39 degrees in the shade most days this month and we have had no rain although friends in Basilicata have had a smattering but nothing much to speak of.
Even Brian has to come inside in the afternoons as it is too hot for him.

Default Diamante webcam

Hi Francis

The Diamante webcam has moved site. It can now be found on Webcam Diamante. Now I hope that you, like me, can get your daily dose of sunshine. Saturday morning markets are the best.

Ciao

Lesley, reading about that fab weather......Now I just want to go away into a corner and cry
I could count on one hand the number of times we have been able to sit out in the sunshine since we got back mid July.
That maverick forecaster from New Zealand Ken Ring rightly predicted our whole summer's (mostly) bad weather. Mind you he is saying September is to be lovely. So maybe I will crawl out of the corner next week sometime and take a peek.
Ciao

Hi John,
Aha! Grazie per il tuo 'link' - mi piace molto!
Many thanks for that - it's great to see those views again! It looks as though this may be a new webcam because the picture is much clearer and the lens is cleaner. I've been trying to catch the Saturday market on the odd times I've been here to log on but was disappointed when I couldn't find a working link to the webcam, so I've bookmarked this one and will try again another time.
Tante grazie.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi,
So sorry to hear about the weather situation where you are -unpredictable summers in our part of the world are something you come to expect but a subject with which you never really come to terms. However, I have to say that, here in the east of England, although we had the wettest July for some years, it was also the sunniest, which kind of made up for it. It was also predicted that we would have a 'wet August' but we're nearly at the end of the month and I have to say that it has been mostly dry, very warm and sunny here. So, maybe we're in for a soaking in September (hope not!) and you will get your share of sunshine! This year, I'm not complaining too much about not getting to Italy because at least I feel we've had more of a "proper" summer!
Incidentally, if anyone is watching the flight situation with Ryanair, perhaps they could let us know in an appropriate thread whether any of the flights to Calabria from Stansted or other airports that have been "pulled" this autumn are reinstated. The Stansted flights stop after 30th September but I don't know about the other airports. I seem to remember that something similar happened last year in October but they were reinstated some time later. Other than that, I guess we're looking towards March/ April before they start again.
If I hear anything new I will also post it on the forum but would appreciate any news from other members who may know more.
Tante grazie.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi all,
I logged onto the Diamante Webcam site yesterday and all was well but when I logged on again just now it was stuck at about midnight last night, so no sunshine at the moment! At least it keeps reloading every few seconds, though, so it's not broken. I wonder what causes this to happen - was there a storm last night or something? Maybe it needs readjusting every so often.
Anyway, I don't intend to give up - it's a bit grey here this morning, although dry at the moment and the Calabrian sunshine is most welcome!
Ciao a tutti,
Frances.

Default Tutto OK!

Hi all,
I've only just had a chance to check the webcam again and it is now up and running OK - I don't know when it 'kicked in' again but the main thing is I'm getting a glimpse of the sun over there before it sets!
Looks as though all is well for the moment, anyway.
Ciao a tutti,
Frances.

Default Webcam

Hi Cool and Francis

I think the guy who runs the website works away from home now and only returns on weekends. If the site goes belly up we have to await his return to get it repaired.

Ciao

John

Hi Cool,
Yep, I've just tried the webcam and it's gone right back to exactly the same night-time view, at exactly the same time and day as when I first viewed it from John's link posted here. There must be some sort of glitch that occurs at night for that to happen. It did restore to status quo by yesterday evening but I guess it's a case of trial and error at the moment. I hope it can be fixed because the view is delightful.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi John,
Sorry, I missed your answer to the query about the Diamante webcam going down. Yes, I believe you're right - the person who owns the webcam does spend some time away working and has posted on this forum before. I did wonder about that but was slightly perplexed when it got up and running again for a short time - maybe this occurred on one of his brief visits home and he was able to tend to it, or maybe it was just a "fluke".
I just took a glimpse of the webcam and it's running in real time with a great view of Diamante lungomare and bags of sunshine! Mind you, it is a Sunday, so perhaps the owner is back home for the moment.
I guess it's just a question of 'pot luck' at the moment but it sure is worthwhile when it's working!
Ciao,
Frances.
