Question Local Doctor

Hi everybody,
We have a pregnant lady going out to use our apartment in Scalea, up in the Petrosa area, this week and she has asked about a local doctor.
I am sure there is one but I have no idea where the local doctors surgery is. It would be fantastic if any local surgery had an English speaking doctor but this is probably too much to hope for. I know there are hospitals in Praia and Paola but which would be best for this kind of situation?
Can anyone help us with a bit of local knowledge. Thanks

The gynecologist that looked after me while i was pregnant was based at Praia hospital however since having Gabriella the Praia hospital has shut the maternity and gynecologist ward down there, so if there are any problem (hope there isn't) i wouldn't bother going there, as they will just send you to Cetaro, As there is a maternity ward there, it is 30 minutes drive south near Lidl.

All doctors in Scalea tend to specialize in something, I dont know where there is a gynecologist though. There are no english speaking doctors though that i know. So i think the best bet would be to head to the hospital and you never know someone there may speak a little English.

Happy holidays
Melanie

Hi. The nearest Obst.Gyn listed seems to be a Dr Salvatore Vitale - 15 via Roma, 87028 Praia Tel: 0985 72586. Might be worth giving them a call on the chance anyone speaks English. If you do need to go to the hospital at Cetraro, we used to attend there regularly a few years back, and although it looks a bit of a dump (could do with a few litres of paint!) and didn't look much different the last time we went past, the inside was OK and the treatment side was fine.

Thumbs up Doctor

Thank you Melanie and Margaret for the information. I heard back from Anna at Easy Immobilari that the Doctor was across from the BNL bank on Corso Mediterraneo ( I assumed this was just a GP's surgery) so I had passed that info on to my guests but will pass on the stuff about Cetrato too. I am trying to build a little local information pack for guests staying in the flat too so very handy to know these things. Cheers

The doctors opposite the BNL bank is called the pronto Soccorso, however on our last trip to Scalea, Raif our two and half year old was poorly and when we went to them it was not open and we were unable to find out what time they opened (although to be fair it was the begining of the Festa)
The A & E at Priara were great though and he was seen straight away and blood test taken.

One Tip though is to make sure you have some indentification when you go and your European Medical card.

The one that you are talking about here Paul opens from 8p.m. until 8a.m. on Weekdays anyway. I'm not sure about the weekends. We have had to go on two different occasions this year and had the same doctor twice. He was very friendly and could speak some English. It costs 15 euro to visit him there and 25 euro for a house call which I think isn't too bad at all.
