driving directions from Lamezia Airport to Scalea

Hi

Can anyone advise the best route from Lamezia airport to Scalea? I am picking up a hire car and have not done the route from the south before.
I assume the A3 is the way to go but where is best to turn off for the best route in? This is an urgent post as I am coming on Sunday!

Hi Ron & Gina,
We usually just follow the SS18 all along the coast.
Have done the A3 before but find the coast road a nicer one (great views all the way and you can't go wrong at all).
Our sat nav usually tries to take us along the A3 for a little way but we just ignore him.

I'm sure there will be others with conflicting views so would like to hear them 8-))

Hi all;

The N3 route takes just as long or longer than the SS18. From what I understand, the N3 turn-off for Scalea is quite far from Scalea itsef. Disadvantage of the SS18 is the speed limit (very few stretches where you can go any faster than 70 km/hr) but it is very scenic. It takes about an hour and a half from Lamezia Terme airport. Follow the signs for SS18 and "Falerna" from the airport. The Scaleoti always take that route.

I agree with Gian - from Lamezia, we take the A3 to the Falerna exit and then pick-up the SS18 to Scalea. It saves a few minutes.

we find the ss18 all the way along the coast to be foolproof as it passes through each town in turn...beautiful views and guaranteed to get you there...we'll always take this route from lamezia and recommend it to friends or family coming for their first trip . hope this helps!
