We are due to fly out to Scalea tomorrow (via Naples) and can't wait, although I am a bit concerned that the weather forecast is predicting cloud and rain for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. I was wondering if Lesley could have a word with the local authorities and arrange for the predicted bad weather to go somewhere else.

Ok Andy - done that!
We have noticed that it has been predicting cloud a few days this week but the sun shone through regardless - so don't rely on the forecast.

Hi All,
We're here now and as you know the weather is off and on. Twas hot, then cool and today rain on & off. Lots of rain tomorrow, but tapering off by the weekend. There's a young Brit couple staying here that got some beach hours in yesterday and we hope to do same by Friday. Still lovely place under an umbrella! I bet next week is more "normal".
We were surprised at the tourist traffic in Scalea today 1 June, and never made it into Despar given the chaos. Guess it's time to shop early morning or evenings, or stay away from Scalea and shop S Nicola, etc. The recession doesn't seem to have affected this area as much. The merchants in Santa Domenica tell me the same. Thats good. At home, everyone I know has taken a 30% reduction on average.
It was especially busy yesterday as today is a bank holiday and a lot of folk also had yesterday off and were having an extra long weekend. Lots of holidaymakers - the Spar Diamante was jam packed with folk buying sun loungers etc.
The weather in Dublin is sweltering at the moment _ 26 degrees all weekend and looks like staying that way. Hope it gets better before the end of the month in Calabria.

Cool,
Is that a joke? Sorry but we don't know if that is extreme heat for Dublin or not! It never got above 18 in SDT today, but we find its almost always 6 degrees warmer in Scalea than here. Only one serious cloudburst then sun/clouds/sprinkle all day. Not bad and still in T-shirts in Scalea when we ventured to town for shopping and lunch.
Morning photos of S.Maria d. Cedro, Marcellina and South Scalea. Surf was up a little too in the breeze. Doug

Hi Again,
Here's a shot of the street in front of the place after a squall passed thru at dinner time. Impervious surfaces mean the water collects big time and flows off. Pretty fun to watch in a hill town. Yeah, we want to go to the beach too, but Mother Nature loose in Italy is novel and cool....... dj
No Doug - No Joke.
I can vouch for this Dublin weather. And yes it is extreme for Ireland to get these temperatures. Just fabulous since last Friday. Had the thermometer out in the garden and it was showing mid 30's in the sun ! Just amazing.
Hard to believe we were getting better weather than Scalea/SDT. That doesn't happen too often.
Hope you are enjoying your holiday - last til the final leap.
Enjoy !!!
Ciao
Niamh
Hate to do this but the temp in Dublin is 26 again today .We get the tan started here in Dublin and we will be ready to top it up when we get out there. Hope it improves soon, sorry got to run, I left the Barbeque unattended. Cool
Just reading back and reminising on those posts from early June.
Little did we know (though we should know better by now) that those sunny warm days were all we were going to get.
We have just recorded the wettest July ever on record. We got back from Santa Domenica July 11th and it has rained every day since.
Oh to be back under Italian skies !!
Well we can only hope that August offers us some reprive.......................
They say we Irish are obsessed with the weather - could you blame us?
