Default Lamezia To Scalea

Hello fellow Calabria lovers,

I have flown to Lamezia several times and always hired a car from Lamezia. However this is only because I have never explored the possibility of alternative transport from Lamezia to Scalea. I am visiting Scalea again at the beginning of June for a few days, and was wondering if anybody had any advice about transport from Lamezia to Scalea and back.

There's a bus to lamezia station. Then the train to Scalea. Cheap and about 45 minutes. all depends on flight times. My guests have done it quite a few times no problem.

Default Help !

Hi All,
We want to get from Lamezia to Scalea by train so after reading your comments I checked on the Trenitalia site.
I don't know if I'm doing something silly or what but putting in a search from Lamezia to Scalea keeps giving me a "No solution found" message. No matter what time of day I put in doesn't seem to matter. With the flight getting in around 19.40 we'd be looking for something after that
Any ideas would be most welcome?
Niamh

Hi Niamh,
I've just tried the Trenitalia Homepage and I've managed to get a couple of train times. There appears to be a direct train at 2025hrs and another at 2130hrs. However if you miss these the next train is at 0645hrs the next day and involves a change at Paola. The 2nd class fare for the first 2 trains is 11.50 Euros. When you try the Trenitalia site put in Lamezia Terme Centrale and Scalea-S. Domenico Talao and see if that works----it did for me.
Hope this helps, Billy.

Thanks so much Billy,
Really appreciate your effort and time.
We could probably make the 20.25 but if not the 21.30 would be fine.
I'll just have to keep trying the Trenitalia website.............
Thanks again
Niamh

Hi Pompeyron,
I know what you mean...............we've done that a few times.
No seats at Easter either - crazy busy trains. Spent 5 hours sitting on the floor at the back of the train. Not pleasant but we were grateful to be even on it as all previous trains "Completo"
We really should all club together and invest in a helicoptor.............imagine the luxury !!!!

I'm hoping that the train won't be that busy and we can enjoy some nice views on the way down. Mind you it might get a bit boring after a while. Once did a train journey from Venice to Rome in the mid 80s and that was packed too and had to stand all the way. My gran got a seat though, she must of used her age........

Hi,
You can book and pay your train seats on the Trenitalia website up to 2 months in advance. You just have to take your print out on to the train as proof of purchase---you will get a carriage no. and seat nos.
Also if the AMOCO offer is still on, you will get a small reduction on the price of the fare.
Regards, Billy.

Hello again,
I meant to write AMICA instead of AMOCO--mi dispiace. If you click on AMICA you will reduce the Rome/Scalea single fare from 32Euros to 26Euros. This fare is only possible on Direct trains I think.
Billy.

Hello Niamph,
I've been on the Trenitalia website again and have discovered that if I try to get a train timetable beyond 3 weeks from today ie. after the 13th June, the site comes up with your 'no solution found'. Any date within the 3 weeks seems to work ok. However, this is no use if you want to book seats in July as in Tony and Brenda's situation. I don't know if this is a fault with the site because I know from past experience I was able to book seats up to 2 months in advance. The only other thing I would add is Scalea station is Scalea S. Domenica Talao and NOT Domenico [ a instead of o ]. These Italian lessons don't seem to be doing me much good or maybe it's just the fact that I'm a wandered old pensioner.
Hope you manage to catch your train ok.
Regards, Billy.

Billy - You are pure genius !!
I had been trying Trenitalia again yesterday and frustratingly getting the same message but now you have solved the mystery. Excellent.
Can't imagine ever needing more than weeks advance booking.
Thanks a million for all your help.

Apparently on the 13th June Trenitalia update their system with new a new timetable. No matter how minor the changes are (or aren't) they aren't taking any bookings for then, which explains why you cannot look up the usual 2 months ahead.
