Drinks at Bar Pier

Hi all, I have put an entry on the members calendar giving time and date for a meeting at Bar Pier for drinks on 9th June at 6pm. If anyone wants to arrange another date too can they put the details there. Doesn't seem to be too many of us around that early but we're there till 27th so I hope to meet up with a few more as the month goes by. It's always easier to find things out face to face than it is from short postings. Meanwhile, does anyone know a good handyman in Scalea?!!

What sort of work would you want the handyman to do? We have used a local chap for painting, rendering, plumbing etc. Seems to be a jack of all trades but works to Italian standards rather than what we may expect in the UK. He has however completely renovated an Italian neighbours property so can turn his hand to most things. We do have a mobile number for him but he speaks no English and has quite a strong dialect. Let us know if you want the details.

Hi Anna. Thanks. I just need a few mirrors put up and a shelf etc. Probably a few hours work. It's difficult to get a guy to do just simple jobs. We have had the place renovated( sounds very grand for a 60 sq.ms flat) but it won't look right until we've done the finishing touches.

I see you live in LB. We lived there for 2 years before we came to South Africa. We loved it there. I used to work in Aylesbury and John in Dunstable. Hope we can meet up sometime.

Hi Lynn, we will be out on the 5th June til 17th so hopefully will remember that date, we are actually flying into Bari this time to see a bit of Puglia then probably popping over to Sicily for a couple of days before we come back up to Santa Maria del Cedro. But we shall try and meet up. The reference to the ducklings is that both my children ( now 32 and 28) were born in Aylesbury Hospital we lived in Bletchley at the time. There used to be a fantastic Indian in Dunstable which we used to go to.!!

My elder child was born in Aylesbury Hospital too. We left the UK 6 weeks later. If you are going to Puglia don't forget to go to Ostuni. It is beautiful. We have stayed there in a little apartment several times. The last time we stayed for 2 weeks. It is a great place to use as a hubb to see that area. Lecce is also beautiful but Ostuni is more small town charm and the people are very friendly. Have a good trip. Let us know closer to the time when you plan to be in Scalea.

This is getting quite scary. To summarise - my partner and I live in Leighton Buzzard. Both our daughters were born in Aylesbury. I spent my childhood in Bletchley and my partner Tony used to work in St. Neots.
We are in Scalea until 8th May and then again from 15 June - 15 July (then not until mid September).
Would be nice to meet up if anyone fancies it.

Hi, maybe we can swap "tales of old Leighton!!" My friend still lives there. What about making a date for a drink on 18th June? I'll put it on the calendar if you like and perhaps a few more people who want to meet up could come along. What do you think?

Anyone about and having a drink between May 25th and 30th? Will be in Scalea then. Champions league final night on 27th could be a good night and I saw from another chat section that there are some good places to watch it. By the way, I will be supporting Barcelona assuming they get there :mrgreen:
