We usually use the Trenitalia website as it has an English option. The web address is www.trenitalia.it/en
Sorry but I am a bit of a technophobe so I don't know how to attach the address as a link.
Hope this helps.

Andy

Hi There,
I've just looked up the Trenitalia Homepage and clicked on the English version and there appears to be 2 direct Scalea to Rome Termini trains. The first leaves Scalea at 1232 hrs and arrives in Rome at 1733 hrs. The second train leaves at 1737 hrs and arrives at Rome Termini station at 2233 hrs. The Second class fare [single] is 32 Euros per person. The site will then ask which type of fare you require and if you click on the Amica fare the price then drops to 26 Euros. From Termini Station it is then possible to catch the Terravision bus to Ciampino Airport. This bus is also bookable on the Internet.
Hope this helps, Billy.

Hi Claire,
I assume that Amica just means Friend. I used this fare last year to travel from Scalea to Salerno when I visited the Amalfi Coast. As far as I know it is available to anyone but there are only a fixed amount of these fares available on each Intercity train so it is best to book early. The Amica fare only applies to Direct trains [ no changing of trains during the journey] as far as I remember. I don't think it applies to local journeys. The Scalea / Rome train is an I/C plus train as was the Scalea/ Salerno train.
Cheers, Billy.

Default Amica?

All this is very interesting, we have just paid the 32 Euro without question a couple of times. If you get one of these special "Amica" tickets, can you still reserve your seat?

I have just glanced at the Trenitalia site, and can find no explanation of the Amica fare.

Hi Billy

Except when it comes to hospitality. I've had some great times up there in bonny Scotland.

Ciao

Hi Baz,
I've just discovered a 3rd direct train from Scalea to Rome Termini---It leaves at 0933 and arrives in Rome at 1433 hrs.

Dermot,
If you Google Trenitalia Amica Offer you will find a full explanation of the Amica fare.

John,
I'm glad you have some good memories of Scotland.

Regards, Billy.

Does anyone know why the train that used to go direct from Rome to Scalea about 1.00/1.30 have a change of station now. Was checking out times for end of May and all the trains between 10.20 and 13.45 now have a station change. Do you think some of the journeys have been reviewed. We normally hire a car but this year are going to use the train.
