Thanks for posting this Lesley my hubby and I really enjoyed the information/photos and didnt realise there was a club in Scalea as we thought it was mainly a town for motorbike enthusiasts all goes to help persuade him to move on retirement.

Hello Claire,
Is your husband interested in having a scooter in Italy? I mentioned my interest in a scooter to a chap there of "UK persuasion" who said I was utterly insane. The Vespas are cute and handy around town, but I have a desire to at least look at the Honda or Suzuki scooters with their larger engines for safer highway speeds, but the same comfort and quiet operation (more money of course . Perhaps Mr. Tudge and I can hold a rally too...... insane pensioners on scooters.

It would have to be a Vespa or even better a Lambretta, although these seem as rare as hens teeth in Italy. I thought there would be more being as they manufactured them. Hubby would definately be interested in joining you for a ride along the coast, but as the government have informed me I wont be receiving my pension until my 66th birthday we will probably be on zimmer frames before we chance to retire to Scalea x

Hey Claire,

The Vespe came to Santa Domenica Talao this year. Of course, they arrived an hour late. but they made it. Here are some photos for you. If you want original full size pix, let me know thru a PM and I can email to you. I was told that several scooters were 54 years old. Pretty nicely-kept bikes. No, I have not gotten one yet -- still waiting for residency! Auguri, Doug
