Default Diamante Webcam

Hi All

I noticed that the webcam has been out of action for a few days. The last time I posted something along these lines, the kind gentleman who run this invaluable resource responded quite quickly and corrected the fault for us.

I need my daily fix, to check on the weather. I will soon be out there. YEEEESSSS

Ciao

John

Thumbs up Ecco!

Hi all,
I just tried the Diamante webcam and it's up and running again. I think there's a glitch which is sometimes caused by the weather. The lens looks as though it's covered with a thin film of dust - probably brought in by the rain. I've heard that winds from Africa often bring over dust and sand particles from the Sahara, so maybe this gets into the mechanism somehow. Just a theory but perhaps someone else knows better.
Anyway, despite everything, the weather there looks nice and sunny today. To anyone planning a trip over there soon - Buon viaggio!
Ciao,
Frances.

Well it's funny you should say that about the sand as our car was covered in it yesterday morning.
And our outdoor thermometer is telling me it is 33 degrees in the shade today 8-)

HI All,

I have just joined the forum as it looks great. It's great to be able to see live picture although seems to be stuck on 04/04 at 23.59.
Can't wait 'till we can b back again.

Laura.

Talking

Hi Laura,
Yes the webcam can be a bit temperamental - it's sometimes a case of creeping up from behind and surprising it! Lol! Seriously, I think the weather can have a bearing on it but it's great when it's working, except that it has the effect of making you wish you were there!
Ciao,
Frances.

Thumbs up

That's a good idea! I'm not usually here to view the webcam on a Saturday morning but will have to take a look at the market in Diamante when I get a chance.
Ciao,
Frances.

Question

Hi again,
I just wondered if anyone in the area (Calabria) felt that earthquake that occurred 60 miles north east of Rome in the middle of the night?? It was a 6.3 - any info at all? Quite a nasty shake that was said to be felt by a large part of Italy, with around sixteen deaths so far.
Ciao,
Frances.

No, we didn't feel anything down here.
The TV reports are showing massive damage and loss of life, with a growing number of mortalities.

Hi all we just had a few lovely days in Scalea and arrived up through Rome and the only thing we noticed was the huge traffic jam heading towards Anquillia God help them.
As for the web cam we had a great bit of fun with that, we drove to Diamante and found mr webcam not that we were poking about in peoples houses or apartments it is very noticable so we phoned home and the kids logged on and they saw us jumping about and waving. The passing public thought we were mad .So thanks Mr webcam for the service. xx fifi

It's not up and running now (again!) it's down!

The phrase 'like a pair of knickers' comes to mind......er, not mine though, I keep mine on my head....

Hi John,
We got home late last night and it has rained ever since.
And, as you say, the forecast isn't too great 8-((

John, can you help with a family topic? My father always said that Jones is a Welsh name, but others say Scottish. Do you know which is more correct? I have trouble speaking any of the UK languages......

Enjoy your holiday. We finally got some temps around 28 here.

Cheers, Doug

Hi Doug, Jones is considered to be a Welsh name but it s also one of the most common English names. Glad about the warmth in Oregon. It was cold and wet here today.

Thanks Lynn and John,

I spoke too soon about spring. Where it was 60F yesterday on the mountain there will be snow tomorrow. Arrrggh

John, once we settle into Europe, we'll just have to visit the UK and see it. Will have to take a cooler to chill the beer tho' eh?

Back to the original thread on webcams. Does anyone know how expensive it is to setup a webcam and maintain it on the internet? I have no idea what the hardware costs let alone having a website through which to transmit images. Just curious as it might be fun to set-up another camera once we too are retired over there. Could point a camera toward Scalea from Santa Domenica for cloud and sunset suggestions or towards Pollino NP.

Ciao, Doug
