Default Ryanair to Go 100% Web Check-in From October

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today (10 March) announced it will move to 100% web check-in from 1st October 2009. This move will allow all passengers, including those travelling with checked baggage, to check-in online thereby avoiding time wasting queues and delays at airport check-in desks.

Ryanair’s web check-in service is open from 15 days to 4 hours before the scheduled departure time of each flight. Web check-in can be accessed via ryanair.com using booking confirmation numbers or flight details to retrieve each reservation.

Having printed their boarding cards at home passengers without check-in bags can continue to proceed directly through airport security while those with check-in bags can simply present at one of Ryanair’s “drop desks” before proceeding through airport security to the boarding gate. This will free passengers from wasting hours at airports prior to departure and will dramatically reduce travel times for all Ryanair passengers.

Ryanair will phase in the introduction of its 100% web check-in as follows:

· Phase 1: From 19th March 2009, Ryanair’s web check-in service will be extended to (a) non EU/EEA citizens, (b) passengers travelling with checked baggage and (c) reduced mobility customers.

Customers choosing web check-in and travelling with only carry-on bags will continue to enjoy this service free of charge. A web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person/per flight will apply to passengers travelling with checked baggage, while customers who wish to use airport check-in will be charged an airport check-in fee of £10/€10 per person/per flight at the time of booking.

· Phase 2: From 1st May 2009 all new bookings will be required to use web check-in, and the use of traditional airport check-in desks will be phased out over the summer months. The web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person, per flight will apply to all new bookings (except promotional fares) from 1st May 2009. In order to dissuade passengers from using airport check-in desks, the fee for airport check-in will double to £20/€20 per person/per flight at the time of booking.

· Phase 3: From 1st October 2009 airport check-in desks will no longer be available at any Ryanair airport. All passengers will be required to web check-in and those who have checked in bags will use the airport “bag drop” desks, if required. From this date, children under the age of 16 will no longer be able to travel unaccompanied and passports and national ID cards will be the only accepted forms of photo ID on Ryanair flights.

Hi Lesley,
The online check in is possibly a good enough idea but it becomes a bit of a pest if your holiday is in excess of 15 days. This makes it impossible to print the Boarding Pass from home for the return journey. I wonder why Ryanair imposes this time limit?
I see from another thread on the website you've had a wee mishap with the car--I hope that Everything is now OK, and yourself and Brian are now 100%.
All the Best, Billy.

Yes I know what you mean Billy.
Easyjet don't have that time limitation re online check-in.
Anyways, you can always visit a mate and get them to print your boarding card out for you - which reminds me you haven't been over to us yet so we'll have to remedy that soon!
(Can't promise Jacquie's standard of cooking tho!)
Thanks, we are fine now but Brian was very uncomfortable for a few weeks.
Regards Lesley

On looking at the Ryanair website today I noticed that Hertz have increased their Discounts if booked through the Ryanair site. I've just booked a Lancia Ipsolon or similar for 21 days in September for £254. This could be a good time for booking car hire for 2009. I also have renewed the annual Insurance4carhire excess which means no extra car hire costs other than the amount agreed.
Billy.

Default Ryan Air

We used similar when we flew British Airways to Naples and it was very efficient no hanging around. Much better when you think of all the time you wait in the queue to check in at Stanstead and all the pushing and shoving with the Italians who dont really understand the British system of queuing.

Ciao a tutti
Just wanted to drop a line about printing Ryanair boarding passes for return flights to UK. We did this in a little stationary shop ,next to Il Corsaro. They have internet access that's connected to a large printer. We just logged on to Ryanair ,popped in our details and printed them off.The guy in the shop had some english. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes and only cost a couple of euro (for web access).
Ciao

Hi Caominho

Thank you for that info, we are going to Scalea in three weeks flying into Rome by BA, and were wondering out to do the online checking in 24 hrs beforehand for the return flight, now we know. I know next to Il Corsaro there is a travel agents, but was unaware of any other shops.

Hi Caominho,
I wonder if you could clarify this for everyone who might be interested.
Was it Mailboxes you used? (they are in the same building as Il Corsaro but around the back of them facing Antica Osteria)
Thanks,
Lesley
