Default Patio Furniture

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy reasonably priced patio furniture? We are looking for a table, 4 chairs, 2 sunloungers and a large parasol, preferably in white plastic/resin. The ones we have seen so far are so much more expensive than in the UK. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Many thanks. June

Hi June and Jerry

We found that there is a better selection of patio furniture during the summer months. There are various places along the Corso Medittereaneo. The trader we have used is situated near La Cinema (Expert).

Ciao

Hi Lynn and John
Many thanks for your replies.
Hypermarkets Lynn? We have tried Despar in Scalea and Emezetta nr Cosenza. Admittedly they are only just starting to bring their patio furniture out so we are obviously a little early, but we have seen some in other stores around eg Tortora/Praia a Mare. Are there other hypermarkets that we haven't found yet?
John, we haven't tried Expert/La Cinema so we will have a look here. I've seen signs for Expert in Scalea but never actually found the store, if you've bought from there it is obviously one for us to try.
Thanks folks.

Hi June and Jerry

Sorry if I did not make myself clear. I meant in the summer there is a large open store which sets up near La Cinema. They have loads of different types of garden furniture and other odds and ends. Its only open for about three or four months of the year.

Ciao

Hi,

We bought a white four seater plastic table with four chairs from Euronics, we also got a navy blue parosol with two fabric sunloungers for under 100Euro total two years ago, the table and chairs with the parosol have been great and we just keep them out on the terrace all year round, the sunloungers though were fold up and not very good quality, one actually collapsed whilst I was led on it. ( I will let Lesley insert the jokes), I would suggest spending a little more on your loungers but if you wait a little while longer then there will be far more choice , the place near Cinema is called Dal Brigante (spelling) but when we looked it was quite expensive.

Good luck in your search.

Paul,Laura and Raif Campbell.

Hi Paul
We have looked at Dal Brigante at Praia but we thought they were expensive for what they were. We don't object at all to paying good money for good products but they were cheap, thin plastic that wouldn't stand the heat and they were asking what we thought was far too much for the quality.
We've come to the conclusion that we will have to be patient and wait a little longer until the stores begin to bring more stock out as the year progresses. We are often in Euronics so will keep watch!
Thanks again
Best wishes
June

Hi All

I agree prices are inflated but we do live in a sea side resort. Look at any similar place in Britain and you can find the same. The answer might be to travel inland and buy them from the shopping centres in or around the larger towns.

Yes some items can be cheap and nasty, My son in law bought a sun lounger from Despar and it lasted less than a day. Others I have met have had similar experiences.

Ciao

Just a little tip about your patio furniture. When you leave your apartment to go back home to the UK or wherever it is advisable to bring the furniture indoors as it can become brittle and snap as once one of our very good friends found out. Hands up who wants a
3 legged chair.

Hi again John
I do know what you mean, that's why we went up to the Emmezette store (not sure how it is spelt) near Cosenza but they hadn't got their spring/summer range on display. We might have another run up there in a few weeks.
Thanks again
June

Hi Maisy
Thanks for the tip. We live here permanently now so we will have to look for furniture that will stand upto the heat (if this rain ever stops!) as we don't want anyone ending up on the floor or indeed a three legged chair!
Best wishes
June

Hi June and Maisy

I agree whole heartedly. I remember when we first had our home in France we bought a cheap set of chairs from the local supermarket. We threw them away within a year because you couldn't afford to adjust your position on them without fear of a collapse.

Its a good idea to talk to the locals and ask them were you can buy some decent quality furniture especially as you are living out there full time.

We have soem friends in Parco Roma they live out there full time and their patio furniture seemed to be of good quality. When I next phone them i will ask them where they bought it.

I note that Leslie hasn't contributed to this thread. Now there's a lady who should be able to help.

Ciao

John

Default Re garden furniture

Carrafour in Cosenza had a large range of garden furniture in the summer last year. There is also a hardware and furniture shop next door to Carrafour which had a good select of garden furniture, fencing, plant pots, etc. It was July last year when I bought the garden furniture so you may need to wait a little while.

Hi Annette,
Would you be able to post directions from Scalea to Carrafour in Cosenza, please? It sounds promising.
Thanks,
Markel

Hi Markel I drive down the coast road past Belvedere and past Saint Paulo. You take a left turn sign posted for Cosenza. It is a direct road over the mountains into Cosenza. Drive through Cosenza and keep a watch out for the Carrafour sign. If the Carrafour sign is familiar to you it will be easy to find. Also Carrafour is open all day no siesta closing for them. If I can be of any more help let me know.
Good Luck Annette

Hi Annette & Markel
Many thanks for your contributions. We found Carrefour, Cosenza (Markel follow the 107 from Paola to Cosenza) whilst we were looking for Emmezetta. They are both well sign posted although the Emmezetta posters actually give you a count down eg 20minutes ahead, 10minutes ahead, 5minutes ahead ! It is quite a good 'home' store and is right by the A3 so although it can be a bit tricky to find, it is much easier to find your way back.
We now realise we are looking too early, so will have to curb our enthusiasm to get ready for the summer for a few more weeks.
Many thanks to you all for trying to help.
Best wishes
June

I'm right here!
We had a car accident in February then were in the UK for 3 weeks so I'm just getting back to normal - and trying to catch up with my "to-do" list!
Regards, Lesley

Hope you're OK, Lesley, and no-one was hurt. Hope the aftermath of the accident didn't cause you too much bother, either. Your input on here is always invaluable and obviously missed by all who visit the forum. Hope you enjoyed your stay in the UK, although I expect you're pleased to get back to the warmer weather!
Take care.
Ciao,
Frances.
