Default Enel bills

Hi everyone,

We have a small apartment in San Nicola Arcella.

We get our electric bills every couple of months [ usually 40 - 60 euros per bill ].All these bills have been paid on time.

Today we received a bill for 266 euros for February/March.

Couldn`t believe it, our last visit to the apartment was in October

How can they charge us such ridiculous amounts for very little usage or for that matter no use at all?

Has anyone else had these sort of problems with ENEL?

Any advice greatly accepted.

Regards

Martin

Hi Martin

It is probably an estimated bill (stimata). We had the same problem with one of our bills, so I took a reading from the meter (if your is like ours you press the button on the meter to go through the menu - you need -periodo actuale A3 lettur = 000???) and got someone who speaks rather better Italian than me to ring ENEL with the actual reading (effetiva). As we pay by direct debit from our Italian bank account the money had already been taken but they provided a refund quite promptly. I believe that you can get a meter upgrade which allows them to get an automatic reading without needing to enter your apartment.

Hope this helps

Andy

Yes, some Enel bills have been estimated recently for some reason (even if you have a self-reading meter).
It does seem extraordinarily high though even for an estimate.
Are you signed up to view your bills online?
If you are I think you can submit a meter reading online if you have someone who can pop by and take the reading.

Andy and Lesley

Thanks for your prompt responses and advice.

I can access the online ENEL website, it`s a pity you can`t pay online though.

I will follow it up and hopefully get it sorted.

Cheers

Martin
