Gian e Di,

Texture of the beaches -- a possibility. In the US on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, we have many many shore birds and gulls, and there is much human settlement. The birds eat fish (from the water) sand crabs and yes, garbage.

Dunno. All our coasts are heavily developed and there are big numbers and varieties of birds. The Florida and Texas coasts have lots of pelicans too which are fun to watch. Could there be fewer numbers of the smaller species of fish?? doug
